Steven Croft: Flashback Moment

[First published on LCCC website]

Next up on our Lancashire County Cricket Club flashback moments is Lancashire captain Steven Croft’s run out of rival captain James Vince in the Specsavers County Championship at Emirates Old Trafford.

During the opening day of this fixture, Lancashire produced a fine bowling display – but Steven Croft’s outstanding piece of fielding stole the show with an unbelievable run out of James Vince.

A straight shot, past the right hand of the sprawling bowler Jarvis, appeared to offer an easy single for Vince to get off the mark. However, Croft had other ideas, sprinting to his left, pouncing on the ball to turn and throw, his dead eye knocking over middle stump to dismiss the scampering Vince.

The run out helped the Lancashire bowlers dismiss Hampshire in the first innings for just 109.

456 was Lancashire’s reply, a century from Luke Procter helping to dwarf Hampshire’s efforts and firmly grasp control of the match. Simon Kerrigan then came into his own in Hampshire’s second innings, taking 5 for 59 in a victory for Lancashire that started with a moment of brilliance.
